遗传表达“噪音”的持续观测

遗传上相同的细胞在一个给定的时间产生不同水平的一种给定的蛋白。遗传表达上的这种噪音,被认为与包括细胞命运的确定及抗药性的产生在内的各种不同重要过程有关。迄今为止,该现象只在微生物种群“短暂”地直接观测到。但本期Nature上发表的一项研究取得了突破,研究人员对人类癌细胞中这种噪音随时间的变化动态进行了跟踪观测,并对不同蛋白进行比较。该工作令人吃惊地显示了各个细胞状态的持久的“记忆”,这种记忆在培养中能持续两代以上。这一根本性的结果可能是人类细胞对药物的不同的、延迟的响应的基础。
